Bill began playing the guitar at age twelve and was a full time musician by age sixteen. His classical studies began in Tokyo, Japan and continued at San Diego State College. Bill studied jazz with grammy award winner Joe Pass and Nat "King" Cole's guitarist John Collins. During the Vietnam war, Bill served as guitarist for the Air Force Band performing at functions in Canada, Puerto Rico and the United States.
Acclaimed by Leonard Feather in "Down Beat" magazine as a guitarist "rich in melodic invention", Bill's jazz career has included appearances with Blue Mitchell, Jerome Richardson, Mundell Lowe, Charles McPherson and a host of others. Bill has also been active in the recording studio playing on hundreds of radio and television commercials. He is featured on "With All My Love"-Bruce Cameron Jazz Ensemble, "Rain Dance"-Anthony Ortega and arranged and directed the music for the HBO Special "Benji Takes a Dive at Marineland".
Pop music stars have also sought Bill as an accompanist and he has appeared with Nell Carter, Rodney Dangerfield, Roger Miller, Phyllis Diller, Burl Ives, The Smothers Brothers, Joe Piscopo, The Mills Brothers, Lilius White, Bob Hope, Patti Page, The 5th Dimension, The Platters, The Drifters, Diahann Carroll, Frankie Laine, Les Brown and His Band of Renown, Marilyn McCoo, The "Legends in Concert" and many others.
Bill's orchestral experience is extensive including shows at the Fox Theatre, Old Globe Theatre, San Diego Symphony "Summer Pops" and fifteen seasons with the Starlight Opera performing the Broadway hits Camelot, Showboat, West Side Story, Eubie, Fiddler On The Roof, Mack and Mabel, Kiss Me Kate, Oklahoma, Annie and Sugar Babies to name a few.
